Sample 2024 BECE English Language Question:
This article on the English Language paper is in three folds, part A, B and C.
Part A: ESSAY WRITING
- Write an article for publication in a National newspaper on the topic; The need for citizens of a country to honour their tax obligations.
2. Three issues bother you in your school, write a letter to your headmaster indicating to him what these issues are and suggest at least three ways they can be corrected.
3. Write a story that ends with the expression: …and I told him, you are lucky.
PART B: COMPREHENSION
4. Read the following passage carefully and answer all the questions which follow.
When Kwame met Afua in his new school at Santasi for the first time on that Tuesday, he saw that she looked familiar. Afua also thought the same.
She wondered where she had met him. “Ah!” she exclaimed, “you attended the youth camp at St. Louis Senior High School in Kumasi last December, didn’t you?” “Yes, I did. Oh you were the speaker for Yellow team”.

The camp was held during Christmas for members of the Methodist Youth Guild. Methodist you all over the region were camped in that school throughout the Christmas holidays.
Afua remembered that at the camp meeting she had slept in St. Martin’s House and had told her friends that she would like to have that school as her senior high school and maybe that house as her house.
She had promised to herself that she would study hard to have her dream come true. Since she loved the school, she couldn’t so easily forget what happened at the youth camp. Every event and scenery kept rolling in her mind.
Kwame happened to be the only one from his church at Ejura who came for the meeting. So Afua was the only one who came from Santasi. They were both lonely but there was a time at the meeting for socialisation and Kwame spoke with Afua briefly.
Now Kwame’s father had been transferred from Ejura to Santasi and the two had come to meet there again. This time, only Kwame was the lonely one, because Afua had attendered Santasi Basic School from primary and so her friends were still around.
The conversation made Kwame feel comfortable. He was no longer lonely because he had found somebody whom he could be friends with. His fears and anxiety were now beginning to go down.
