Digitalization in Ghana, New Mobile Money Launched
Digitalization is indeed the bedrock of every strong economy. Thus far Ghana has for some couple of years been embarking on this agenda to digitalize every sector of her economy.
Ranging from paperless port systems, digitalization in the Driver and Vehicle Licence Authority (DVLA), digital passport systems, online ticking services to the many others which are currently being rolled out.
All these are some measures taken by the government of Ghana to limit human – human contacts in all sectors of the economy. Digitalization has also been proven to be the surest way of tackling corruption, not surprising over the years huge sums of monies have been saved. These monies would have ended in the pockets of some individuals.
The new digitalization platform outdoored by the government of Ghana is the ‘GhanaPay Mobile Money Service’. Aside the mobile money platform services own by the Telcos, this is a government of Ghana initiative to bridge the gap between the banked and the unbanked population.
The GhanaPay service is one of a kind by the Universal banks, rural banks, as well as savings and loans companies to individual and businesses.
The digital platform which operates like the mobile money services which currently exist in our jurisdiction, the GhanaPay Service offers users the opportunity to have bank accounts. With this, an individual do not need to have an account with any traditional bank, it is money sending/receiving platform as well as a banking platform.
The government of Ghana considers this new baby on the list of its number of digitalization drive agenda to be a ground breaking. The initiative which expands government’s vision for financial inclusion, especially to the unbanked population has now been realised.
