Security Personnel Tops List of Ponzi Schemes Victims

The security personnel in Ghana have been noticed by the Bank of Ghana to be the most affected persons when it comes to the issues of Ponzi schemes.

According to the central bank of Ghana, these personnel become victims of Ponzi schemes as a result of inadequate financial literacy. Thus far, it has organized a workshop to equip these personnel with the needed financial literacy. This will allow them to know whether a particular financial institution is credible or not.

Doing these will limit the rate at which they fall victim to these Ponzi schemes. This work organized by the central Bank of Ghana is part of its sensitization process aiming at educating the public on financial literacy and to also reduce the shocks receive by many due to Ponzi schemes or from non-credible financial institutions.

The Bank of Ghana was able to detect that the security personnel to be the most affect upon a statistical analysis made from the number of complaints it receive daily. Majority of these people who call happen to be security personnel.

Some critical issues that the workshop centers on are;

  • How to identify licensed and unlicensed financial institutions.
  • How to officially place complaints in case they become or see any forms of financial irregularities arising from the operations with any institutions in the country.
  • They were also taken through loan application processes and money laundering.

All these are measures taking by the Bank of Ghana to reduce or eliminate the menace of financial irregularities among financial institutions and the persons who transact with them.

From the financial stability department of the Bank of Ghana, indicates that security personnel happens to be the greater percentage of all the complaints receive from victims regarding Ponzi schemes.

The bank took time to further warn the general public to desist from discarding their SIM cards after having from mobile money services.

As it stands now all the records are kept with the Bank of Ghana and defaulters are at a higher risk of losing financial credibility.

The Central Bank indicated that, such records will be checked by Banks to know if the person contracting the loan facility from them owes on any of the Mobile money platforms. This will enable them to know whether the loan amount be given out or not.

Speaking at this occasion was the Chief Accountant of the Ghana Immigration Services of the Ashanti regions. Mr John Mensah Ayettey stated that this workshop will enable the personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service to acquire the needed knowledge about financial literacy and to also reduce the risk of being affected by a Ponzi schemes.
