List of Subjects Eligible for Study Leave with Pay

The Ghana Education Service has as of yesterday, 20 of June released the list of subjects eligible for study leave with pay. This means that teachers whose subject areas fall within these categories of subject are entitle to study leave with pay.

To ensure continuous professional development of teachers in the education sector, the Education service creates avenues for skills to be developed. These avenues always come in the form of study leaves with either pay or without pay.

The world is fast changing and teachers are the drivers of all lives, as a results their skills need to be upgraded. This is done to meet the requirement of the 21st century classroom teacher. This year’s study leave with pay focuses more on STEM programmed.

Greater percentage of study leave with pay was allocated to Science, Language, and Mathematics with the least allocations giving to Music and laboratory services.

The next paragraphs would outline the conditions a teacher has to meet before qualifying for a study leave with pay.

To qualify for a study leave with pay the following are the conditions one needs to meet;

  • A teacher must have satisfactorily served up to a maximum of 3 years. A beneficiary of study leave with pay shall be bounded for the number of years served at the institution and an additional one year period.
  • If you are a staff of the Ghana Education Service and served a two – year period at any deprived area is eligible for a study with pay.
  • Non – professional graduates who want to pursue post graduate diploma must have served for duration of one year before qualifying for a study leave.
  • A staff who is also returning from secondment must serve for a period of two years.
  • Supposing you are employee of the service and you vacated your service and returned, to qualify for a leave with pay you must serve for five years.
  • When you are not granted to pursue your course by means of study leave with pay, such an applicant cannot reapply in the second year but can only do so by applying for study leave without pay.
  • In all, the person applying for a study leave with pay should exhibit good conducts and performance, lastly should be recommended by an immediate supervisor.

Mode of application

To apply for a study leave with pay, an applicant should get copies of the application forms from the Metro/Municipal/district Education offices across the country.

Four copies of the application forms should be completed with certified and true copies of certificates attached.

All filled applications forms should be submitted to the Regional Director through the Metro/Municipal/District Director or head of institution. (2nd Cycle)

The regional Directors are to also ensure qualified applicants’ applications reached the Acting Director, Human Resource Management and Development of GES by the 30 of November, 2022.
