NAGRAT, GNAT, TEWU & CCT Hold a Joint Press Conference Next Tuesday
The three unions in the educational sector; NAGRAT, GNAT, CCT and TEWU of Trade Union Congress to hold a joint press conference on Tuesday, which is on the 5th of July, 2022.
The Joint press conference will seek to discuss issues pertaining to workers under the educational and the public sector. This is to ensure that the needs of members in all these unions are met by the government of Ghana.
A letter released by the unions indicates that, the associations are to meet in a way of joint press conference to make their grievances opened to the government. The letter which was issued on the 1st of July will allow leaders of the unions to account on issues bothering workers in the Pre-tertiary education sector.
The key thing to be looked at this joint press conference is the issue of the long dragged Cost of Living Allowance also known as CoLA. In weeks gone by, the leaders of these unions and some public sector workers have been raising their voices over the hardships they have to go through to survive.
As a result, brought about the issue of Cost of Living Allowance (CoLA), this, during the joint press conference will pave way for leaders to make deliberations. It will also buy them some time to make amends and decide on what happens next should the call for the CoLA proves futile.

The last paragraph of the letter which reads; “this has become necessary due to government feet dragging on the request of payment of Cost of Living Allowance to public sector workers”, depicts that the leaders of the Unions are poise for action since the government has turned deaf ears to their request. This amongst other things are what the leaders of the unions will discuss when the hold the joint press conference on July 5.

Does this create a picture of a looming strike action? Well, we all wait to see what puns out. There have been many occasions members of these unions have chastised their leaders for being unable to walk their talks. It is of great hope that the government listens to their request this time round and fast-track matters to resolve this amicably. Until then, all we can report is, NAGRAT, TEWU, GNAT and CCT are to hold a joint press conference to discuss matters affecting the workers in the public sector, most especially workers in the pre-tertiary education sector.
