Tricks to Becoming Maths Guru
Intro.
Maths is one of the most important subjects to learn in school. It is challenging, but it has many benefits. In this article, I will talk about what maths is and how maths skills can be developed.
We all know that maths is important, but do we know why? Where did this importance come from? Is it important to offer maths lessons and materials outside of the classroom?
I will explain how mathematics can be a powerful tool for building critical thinking abilities in students and why it is important to offer opportunities to practice mathematics outside the classroom as well.
There are many students who believe maths is very difficult and no matter what, they won’t reverse this notion. Like my master always say, maths is the easiest subject one could ever think of.
Note
But whether one likes it or not, maths is the bedrock upon which our daily activities sit on. What can you think of? Buying and selling, banking, construction, automobile, technology, sciences and many more I cannot mention.
The fear for maths (mathematics) has got to do with lack of self-discipline and consistency; they are the rudiments of mathematics.
Simple but workable tricks, point one.
To become a maths guru, one needs to first of by just reversing the fears you have for the subject. Considering it to be like the ones you have upper hands over, paints a picture of confidence in you and I tell, you’ll be gingered and the love will naturally come. I will share a personal story with you as we move along.
Point two of the tricks to becoming a Maths guru
Now, this is point that keeps most of away from the gurus in the maths. The most important things to look at if you want to have upper hands over mathematics are self-discipline and consistency. Have you heard many people say, consistency is key? Yes, that is actually true, you cannot make one attempt and that sees you through the journey. Which means one has to constantly practicing from time to time, try as many as you can by starting with the ones you are comfortable with; doing that boost your confidence level and with time the love for the subject becomes huge.
As I mentioned above, self-discipline is also key to becoming a maths guru; nothing should keep you distracted. I will advise you have a time-table with mathematics appearing on it as many as possible. Drawing a time-table alone doesn’t solve the problem, but being committed to following; this is what we call the self-discipline.
Point three of the tricks to becoming a maths guru
While working around things, try to identify your problems and work on them. A problem once identified becomes to solve, those ones which are above you don’t feel shy to contact a friend or a teacher to help you out. At no point should get discourage because you are moving at the pace you earlier anticipated.
Point four of the tricks to becoming a maths guru
Being able to apply what you have been taught in the classroom is a plus to you, so as much as possible to garner much understanding from the classroom by asking questions, working our groups and testing yourself. There are times you can set questions for yourself and work things out, this help you to measure how far you have gone.

Prospects in Maths
One might say what have I got to do with mathematics (maths)? But I tell you, within the era of STEM; those who are good in figures and symbols manipulations have better chances of succeeding. The following are some areas of studies where mathematics is applied;
- Computer science
- Technology
- Engineering
- Scientific computing and numerical analysis
- Mathematical biology
- Banking and finance
- Computational methods
- Fluid mechanics
- Machine learning
- Mathematical neuroscience
- Optics
- Stochastic modelling
Just to mention a few, mathematics (maths) holds uncountable number of opportunities as every country and of course Ghana is not exception, trying to participate in the fourth industrial revolution. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is the way forward to go and you and which you have to develop the love for the subject.
Personal story about Maths,
Remember I said I’ll share a personal story? Well, back in days as a primary student, I had least interest for mathematics. I never scored above 50 percent, but the opposite happened when I got to junior. It took the help of my mathematics teacher to me through this, my first term exams, I got 49. This wasn’t up to expectation, but didn’t give up. With consistency and practice I had 65 percent in my second term exams, it got to a time I was topping my class in mathematics. Though I was good in all the other subjects, mathematics was the problem, I identified and solved it. This tells you can equally do it.
