Education Minister Opens New Science Laboratory at KUMACA.
As part of the government’s vision to deepens Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and in the area of technical and vocational education in the country, the minister of education has inaugurated an ultra-modern science laboratory at KUMACA.
KUMACA as being the affectionate name of Kumasi Academy, on Monday, July 11 saw the opening of a magnificent science laboratory to augment its existing facilities in the teaching and learning of sciences.
This ultra-modern science laboratory was fully funded by the alumni of the school. The facility has lots of modern and up to date science equipment; this makes it one of the finest in the country.
The minister, speaking at the opening ceremony on the campus of Kumasi Academy put more emphasis on the government’s vision to widening the scope of science education in the country.
Dr Yaw Osei Adwutwum said that the government has put in all the requisite measures to ensure the construction of STEM facilities across the country. He took this opportunity to laud and appreciate the past students of KUMACA for such an outstanding gesture and called on others to emulate such.

The minister reminded the attendees at the gathering the importance of the infrastructural development to the learning outcomes of the school and the overall benefit the state stands to derive.

Throwing more lights on the issues of STEM and TVET education in country, he recounted the fact the government has constructed three STEM schools. These schools according to him are located in Bosomtwe, Abomosu, Kpesempe and plans are currently underway to replicate same in Diasu, Akrodie and Awaso.
At the ceremony, the minister assures the readiness of the current government to build new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics universities in all the five new regions.
Though the country is making all efforts in the areas of science and technology but it is just a handful and more needs to be done in order to achieve the 60:40 science-humanities ratio. This, the minister indicated isn’t going to be in too distant future.

“This initiative is synced with the president’s vision of developing science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET).”
“The government has started operationalizing STEM school such as the Bosomtwe Girls STEM, Abomosu STEM and Kpesempe STEM School. Others schools such as Diasu, Akrodie and Awaso will operationalized soon.”
“I am of the firm belief that when they are completed, it will increase
the intake in courses that will drive industrialisation in Ghana.”
