PAPER II: ESSAY

This paper consists of three parts A, B and C. Answer three questions in all, one question from part A and all the questions in Parts B and C. Answer all the questions in your answer booklet.

Part A: ESSAY WRITING

Composition should be about 250 words long

  1. Write a letter of complaint to the customer service officer of Electricity Company of Ghana, about the rampant power –cuts in your area.
  2. Write an article for publication in a local newspaper on the topic: “The effects of the increment in fuel process on the standard of living of Ghanaians”.
  3. Write a story that illustrates the saying, “Birds of the same feather flock together”.

PART B: COMPREHENSION.

  • Read the following passage carefully and answer all the questions which follow.

Kojo was only nine years old when he came across the words “faithfulness” and “honesty” whilst reading. He asked his mu for an explanation of those terms and when she explained, Kojo was so impressed that he resolved he was always going to be faithful and honest.

He began in earnest and occasionally when he told a lie, he would promptly regret it and apologise. Before long, honesty and faithfulness had become part of Kojo. When he got to JHS 2, his uncle, Uncle Bob, asked Kojo to come and stay with him since his two mature sons had both travelled outside the country. So Kojo moved in but upon completion of his JHS education, Uncle Bob refused to let Kojo return to his parents.

Not too long ago, Uncle Bob also travelled abroad and was to stay there for up to about a year. He left the house in the care of Kojo and Fuma, the house help who was a bit older than Kojo. In Uncle’s absence, Fuma suggested to Kojo that they should connive with some robbers so that they would loot the house and share the proceeds with the robbers. Kojo was dumbfounded at such a suggestion. He would not take such any suggestion and try continuously as Fuma would. Kojo resisted any such attempt. In the end, Fuma fled the huse for fear of Kojo disclosing all of his suggestions.

When Uncle Bob return and hear all that had happened, he realised he did not know how to thank Kojo. He promised to reward Kojo but this never happened until the unexpected happened. Uncle Bob died. After his death, his will was read and to everyone’s amazement, he had given his mansion and two beautiful saloon cars to, including a Merceds Benz to Kojo. That is the result of what honesty and faithfulness can yield.
