NAGRAT on Prof Opoku Amankwah’s Dismissal
In one of the media discourses, National chapter of NAGRAT vehemently indicated that, Professor Opoku Amankwah’s appointment should be reinstated. Professor Opoku Amankwah’s disappointment came following the President’s directives in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary at the Presidency on the 17th October.
This was in line with a prior notice by GES of his skills not being needed at the material moment.
Fast forward, a finance Expert, Dr Eric Nkansah was appointed to manage the Ghana Education Service. But the appointment of Dr Eric Nkansah as the Director of Ghana Education Service has been greeted with so much criticism. It seems this isn’t going to stop anytime soon, especially with those in the Education fraternity.

Since the news of his appointment surfaced the public domain, various unions of the education sector have been talking. Notable ones amongst them is the National Association of Graduate Teachers which is calling for the comeback of the former.
NAGRAT, on countless occasions has indicated how demeaning his appointment means to the personnel within the education sector. Dr. Eric Nkansah is believed to be a finance expert, with many saying he lacks the core values, skills, expertise and know-how to head the Ghana Education Service.
According to NAGRAT, Prof Opoku will be retiring in March 2022 and it will be of great disservice to terminate his appointment and replace him with someone with no knowledge of education. As a result, the President should reinstate his appointment.

The also mentioned the fact, Prof has risen through all the ranks; from classroom to his current position. So it is unclear why someone with such experiences is not needed as stated in the President’s letter, rather a person with no such experiences is needed.
On this same issue, the National Council of Private Schools has seriously opposed it. Saying the new Director General Merits no such position on the basis that he has doesn’t qualify.
These are some and many more other reasons why NAGRAT has been talking about the dismissal of Prof Opoku Amankwah and it is calling for the former to be brought back.
