Understanding RTI Tier 1 as the First Line of Support for Students’ Success

This approach seeks to ensure that no student is left out in a bit to achieving one’s academic success. Response to Intervention identifies and supports learners who may have difficulties or in other cases behavioral inhibitors. There 3 tiers of RTI but the one we are focusing on is the tier one which seeks to provide high quality instructions to learners, not necessarily for those below belts only. Purpose of Response to Intervention Tier 1
The sole aim of Response to Intervention tier 1 is to provide instructions, not necessarily instructions but high-quality instructions to learners to all your students. This framework consists of differentiated and evidence-based instruction, progress monitoring and several other teaching strategies aimed at promoting academic excellence and avoiding serious academic consequences. Strategies used in RTI Tier 1
The strategies used in implementing this fundamental framework include the following;
- High-quality instruction: In Response to Intervention Tier 1, it focuses more on high-quality instruction that is tailored to meet all the needs of learners in a differentiated way.
- Ongoing progress monitoring: In implementing this framework, be sure to monitor and know the performance of each student. This will allow you to identify students who may need additional attention.
- Universal screening: this strategy is considered the most important since it easily helps in identifying students who may need attention through screening.
- Data-based decision-making: this is more or less data driven, where decisions are made on the performances students based on the available data gathered about them. Educators need to regularly evaluate such data to be able to fish out such learners and provide them with the necessary support.
- Evidence-based interventions: Response to Intervention Tier 1 interventions are evidence-based and have been shown to be effective in promoting academic success and preventing the development of more severe academic or behavioral problems.

In fact, RTI Tier 1 importance cannot be belittled and the thorough implementation of this framework yields the best results. At no circumstance should you overlook the poor performance of your students as this framework is specifically designed to assist and support such students.
