Solving Quadratic Equations with Algebra Tiles Made Simple in Videos
Algebra Tiles can be used to resolve factorable quadratic equations.
The algebra tiles has 3 pieces
- The x²- tile (x-by-x tile)
- The x-tile (x-by-1)
- The unit tile.
The idea behind this is using forming a seemingly perfect rectangle with the algebra tiles.
First, one must identify algebraic tiles that make up a given quadratic equation from which a rectangle will be formed.
For example, the equation.
x²+5x+6=0
The equation above, will require
✓one x²-tile
✓ five x-tile
✓ six unit tiles
From these, a rectangle is formed and the length and width of the rectangle is read and recorded as the binomial factor of the quadratic equation in question.

This video is a build up on the previous video on Using Algebra Tiles to resolve quadratic expressions.
In this instance, a rectangular array of algebra tiles are arranged from which learners are tasked to deduce the quadratic equations expressed by the rectangle (uniform collection of algebra tiles)
The video employs two major ways of arriving at the expected quadratic equation illustrated.
- Identifying the all the algebra tiles.
- Using the length and width of the rectangle.
The video explains to your comprehensio
