A New Beginning in SHS Selection: Relieving BECE Graduates’ Fears
For both parents and students, the annual competition for Senior High School (SHS) placements in Ghana among candidates who have just passed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been a major cause of stress and uncertainty. However, radical changes will be made to the 2023 SHS selection procedure in an effort to allay these concerns.
What Used to Happen
In the past, aspirants would choose their top SHSs and wait for the results of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). This frequently resulted in the famous “self-placement” method, when many students were left without any offers of placement. Candidates and their families felt hopeless and frustrated as a result of this.
The New Method of SHS Selection
A new method of selection will be used in the 2023 CSSPS in response to these difficulties. Candidates will have two chances to get their ideal SHS placements, not just one. Candidates will have the opportunity to select up to six SHSs of their choosing during the first selection, and then another five schools at the second selection. With the self-placement system being abandoned, candidates and their parents will no longer have to deal with the agony of not finding a placement.
For BECE graduates, this new development is a breath of fresh air because it gives them more options and lessens the worry around SHS placement. The new CSSPS will provide a safety net by allowing candidates to select from a total of eleven schools, providing applicants numerous opportunities to be placed in the school of their choice.
For students and their families, the 2023 SHS selection process promises to be less stressful. With this new strategy, it is hoped that the yearly issues of SHS placement will vanish, freeing students and parents to concentrate on the upcoming thrilling chapter of their academic journey.
